En bref
Kinetic typography animation of an excerpt from “Ring Ring Ring” by Tyler, The Creator, pairing lyrics with objects, motion, and camera movement.
Final
01 — Translating the Track into Visuals
The goal of this project was to bring the song’s lyrics to life in harmony with their meaning. I selected an excerpt from “Ring Ring Ring” and developed a composition blending typography and cutout objects.
The rotary phone serves as a recurring motif. Its dial spins to reveal words, while the phone itself mirrors the section focused on the ringing. Other objects, such as the glass, the plate, and the heart, establish visual connections with the text. Elements drawn from the artist’s visual universe round out the composition.
02 — Building an Overall Composition
I distributed the words and objects across a large canvas, varying their orientations and scales. This layout acts as the canvas for the camera moves.
This annotated blueprint outlines the camera path between the different sections of the excerpt. Directional shifts and loops back to key motifs help structure the pacing over time, rather than presenting the lyrics as a series of static slides.
03 — Bringing the Elements to Life
Next, I animated the composition in After Effects, pairing the camera moves with the motion of the objects and typography. The result is a motion piece where the graphic elements follow the rhythm and flow of the musical track.
Personal Assessment
This project allowed me to combine typographic composition and motion design. The camera path layout served as a link between graphic research and building the sequence in After Effects.
